The smell of gunpowder and sounds of battle will again fill the frigid New England air as costumed reenactors commemorate the 1704 Raid on Deerfield. More than 50 volunteers will take part in the recreation of events of events that would forever change the town of Deerfield, and impact Native and French communities. Hosted by Historic Deerfield and the Pocumtuck Valley Memorial Association, the 1704 Colonial Encampment Weekend will take place Feb. 29 - March 2 throughout the village.
"We are committed to telling the many different perspectives - English, French, and Native - on this pivotal event in New England history." said Tim Neumann, Executive Director of the Pocumtuck Valley Memorial Association. "This year's expanded living history event is a family-friendly way to thoughtfully commemorate 1704." All events will take place between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. daily. Special Event Admission: Friday, February 29 - free; Saturday & Sunday, March 1 & 2, $14 Adults (19+), $5 Youth (13-18), 12 and under and members of Historic Deerfield or PVMA, free. Tickets purchased Saturday, March 1, will be good for both days. All events are subject to change without notice, skirmish is weather dependent.
