Deerfield Descendants

ARE YOU A DEERFIELD DESCENDANT?

Whether you trace your family tree to a local Native group, the Raid of 1704, or to families who settled in Deerfield in the 19th and 20th centuries, you belong to the village and it belongs to you. The story of Deerfield reflects a unique blend of cultures and has evolved for many centuries. The families of Deerfield are at the center of this story and as a Deerfield Descendant you play an important role in keeping your family’s legacy alive.

Visit the museum houses with surnames like Williams, Stebbins, Allen, Sheldon, Frary, Wells-Thorn, Barnard, and Ashley, where the daily lives of your ancestors are illustrated in stories, furnishings, and architecture. Walk down the mile-long Street and experience the warm, neighborly ambiance. Find the names of your relatives on a headstone in the Old Burying Ground on Albany Road. Discover artifacts from your family in the Museum’s Attic at the Flynt Center of Early New England Life. Stroll through the fields that were once cultivated by your ancestors. Hold original documents in your hands and read first-hand accounts of your family members in the Memorial Libraries. There is no better way to enliven your sense of the past and to pass your Deerfield legacy on to your children and grandchildren than to visit Historic Deerfield.

For more information on the Deerfield Descendants program, please call Karen Dionne, Assistant Director of Development, at 413-775-7178, or send an e-mail to Karen at kdionne@historic-deerfield.org.

A Message from Historic Deerfield President, Philip Zea.
