Numbering in the hundreds, and mostly on display throughout the rooms of the historic houses, the collection includes several portraits by Erastus Salisbury Field (1805-1900), and the only known portrait of American architect Asher Benjamin (1773-1845).

Portrait of Dr. Ebenezer Hunt, by Ralph Earl (1751-1801) on oil, canvas, and wood; Northampton, Massachusetts, 1799. Dr. Ebenezer Hunt of Northampton sits comfortably sorrounded by the emblems of his livelihood, medical instruments and books. Born in Massachusetts,  Ralph Earl worked first in Connecticut, but his loyalist sympathies necessitated a move to London in 1778 where he studied with Benjamin West (1738-1820). In 1785, Earl returned to America, where he made a career as an itinerant artist painting the likenesses of New England's rural elite.
