The dream of Deerfield's colonial experience seems tailor-made for the movies. In March, 1910, Herbert S. Streeter filmed "Ononko's Vow, A Colonial Tale". The film was produced by the Thomas A. Edison Company, for an estimated cost of $2,000.
Most of the filming of the movie was done in Deerfield, as well as in the neighboring towns of Greenfield and Whately.
The original black and white, silent movie was obtained by Henry N. Flynt from the collections of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. It is believed to be the only copy in existence.
