Lacemaker's Pillow Pin

Lacemakers in the French Alps decorated their equipment as beautifully as their handwork.  The design for this pin comes from a lacemaker’s pillow in Historic Deerfield’s collection.  The wooden ends of the pillow were carved with a central chrysanthemum surrounded by foliate scrolls.  On one end there is a small door to a compartment for spare bobbins.
