Extreme Fashion: Early and Late 19th-Century Women's Dress at Historic Deerfield

This fall, Historic Deerfield will exhibit eye-catching 19th-century women’s fashion from its collection in two museum houses. Neoclassical dresses from the early 19th-century will be on view in the 1799 Asa Stebbins House, while the Colonial Revivial Frary House showcases 1890s fashions. The rich settings of both venues help to contextualize not only the objects on view, but also larger fashion stories in New England. Seen against period architecture and decorative arts, Extreme Fashion explores themes of gender, aesthetics, technology, and culture in 19th-century America.
