One-day Conference at Historic Deerfield to Mark the 350th Anniversary of King Philip’s War/Metacom’s Rebellion

Date: Saturday, Sept 26, 2026
CFP Deadline: January 15, 2026
Location: Historic Deerfield, Deerfield, MA 01342
Historic Deerfield, with support from partner organizations, is hosting a one-day conference next year to commemorate the 350th anniversary of King Philip’s War/Metacom’s Rebellion, with the goals of helping a broad audience learn more about the causes, course, and effects of the conflict, as well as fostering additional discussions and further research.
We invite proposals from a wide range of interested participants:
- Scholars from various disciplines and experiences, including graduate students
- Native knowledge keepers and other community representatives
- Members of organizations involved in related interests
We anticipate a program of two types of sessions: formal 20-minute research presentations and commentary, and panels or round tables with short (10-minute) presentations by each participant followed by “free form” discussions. Please indicate in your proposal which format you would prefer. Complete session proposals are welcome. The program will be hybrid, with in-person presenters and audience as well as a virtual audience. We also encourage community members who cannot attend, but who are interested in recording a brief video reflection that could be shared online, to email the contact below.
Please submit a proposal (up to 300 words) in an attached Word document to Erika Gasser, egasser@historic-deerfield.org.
Proposals should include:
- The presenter’s name and affiliations (if any)
- The title of the proposed presentation
- Whether you prefer a 20-minute research presentation or a 10-minute panel presentation format
- A short paragraph about its content
Submitters may also attach a c.v. not longer than two pages or a bio paragraph, which will give program planners more information about your relevant background.
The deadline for submissions is January 15, 2026. Speakers invited to present will receive overnight accommodation at Historic Deerfield on Friday, September 25, 2026, a speakers’ dinner that night, reimbursement of travel expenses with receipts, lunch on Saturday, and a modest honorarium. Speakers will be expected to participate in the in-person program on site.
