Endowment – Historic Preservation and Restoration
Deerfield has a national reputation as the best-documented small town in America. Scholars, historians, genealogists, and members of the general public alike appreciate Historic Deerfield’s careful preservation of original antique buildings and nationally significant collections of approximately 28,000 household goods as well as the library’s collection of 21,000 volumes and documents, to deepen their understanding of the forces that shaped early American life.
Protecting and preserving this rare place is at the core of Historic Deerfield’s mission. Its landscape and buildings are witnesses to America’s founding years. They are the jewels that engage visitors, and the assurance that the past will not be lost.
In addition to current use funds to restore the Stebbins House, we seek $3.9 million in endowed funds to ensure the long-term stewardship of the museum’s buildings, grounds, and collection of early American artifacts.

Endowment – Visitor Engagement and Learning
Telling the stories that bring the houses and objects to life is at the core of Historic Deerfield’s mission. We see and hear and feel the lives of the real people whose stories make up the Deerfield experience. Their stories are told in the actual place where they happened, with the same smells of farmland and hearth, and often with the very objects that were used in and around Deerfield. We offer a feeling of tangible connection to the American story.
With more dynamic visitor engagement and expanded learning opportunities, Historic Deerfield can bring more people into the magic and power of other times.
In addition to current use funds to enhance visitor engagement and learning, we seek $1.5 Million in endowed funds to ensure that the Museum is able to sustain its programming for an increasing number of visitors.
