August Adventures

Free admission for all!
In partnership with the Highland Street Foundation, Historic Deerfield will offer no-cost admission to the museum on Thursday, August 1st! Visit the museum’s historic houses and Flynt Center, get hands-on with make-and-take arts and crafts activities, and more! See some of the day’s special activites below.
At the Williams Lawn:
Visitors can play old fashioned lawn games like The Graces, Quoits, and Rolling Hoop.
Spice it Up
Location: Hall Tavern Kitchen
Visitors can learn about sugar and imported spices and try their hand at grating nutmeg, grinding pepper, and nipping sugar.
At the Apprentice’s Workshop:
Visitors can weave on a loom, try their hand at simple woodworking tools, and try rolling a roulette wheel that’s used to decorate ceramics.
Make a Lavender Sachet
Location: North side of Hall Tavern, near the Cooks’ Garden
Visit the Cooks’ Garden to see heirloom herbs and plants. Visitors can make and take home a lavender sachet.
Creative Encounters
Visitors will meet Museum Educators who will lead them in an interactive and fun learning experience.
- At the Stebbins House South Lawn: Explore the theme of Keeping Cool during the summer in the days before air conditioning
- At the Dwight House North Lawn: Make and Take a Stenciled Card based on the stencils on display in the Barnard Tavern!
At the History Workshop
In addition to our usual play space, visitors can make and take a paper fan!
